Self Discovery 2

PART 2 OF THE SELF-REFLECTION SERIES

The Goal Clarity Session:
Questions to Design a Life You Actually Want

Stop chasing borrowed dreams. Start building a life that feels authentically yours.

Goals. We all have them. Health goals. Relationship goals. Career milestones. Wealth targets.

But here's the question most of us never ask: Are these truly OUR goals, or are they borrowed dreams from society, family, or social media?

Goals are one of the most important words in our lives. They help us stay focused and driven. They give us those incredible highs when we achieve them—and sometimes crushing lows when we fall short.

But what if we've been asking the wrong questions about our goals all along?

Why This Matters

Most goal-setting advice focuses on the WHAT and WHEN. But true goals start with WHY. When you understand the deeper motivation behind your aspirations, everything changes.

II
Before diving into the questions, pause and breathe.

SECTION 1: The Essence of Your Goals

Understanding Your "Why"

  • What fulfills me as an individual—not as a job title, parent, or partner, but as ME?
  • Why else would I need to achieve this goal? (Ask "why" at least 3 times to get to the core)
  • What is the feeling I want to experience when I achieve this goal?
  • Is this goal mine, or am I pursuing it because I think I "should"?
  • If I could only achieve ONE goal in the next year, which one would create the most meaningful change in my life?
Reflection: Goals rooted in external validation often leave us empty even when achieved. Goals rooted in personal values create lasting fulfillment.

🛠️ SECTION 2: Your Resources & Readiness

Assessing Your "How"

  • What skills do I currently have that will help me achieve this goal?
  • What skills or knowledge do I need to develop?
  • Who in my life can support me on this journey?
  • What resources (time, money, energy) am I willing to invest?
  • What's one small action I can take TODAY that moves me closer to this goal?
Pro Tip: Don't wait until you feel "ready." Start with what you have right now. Clarity comes through action.

SECTION 3: The Timeline & Transformation

Visualizing Your "When"

  • When do I want to achieve this goal? (Be specific: date, season, or milestone)
  • What will my typical day look like once I've achieved this goal?
  • How would my surroundings change when I achieve this goal?
  • What would I see, hear, and feel once I achieve this goal?
  • Who will I have become in the process of achieving this goal?
Visualization Exercise: Close your eyes. Imagine yourself one year from today, having achieved your most important goal. What’s different?

SECTION 4: Staying on Track

Maintaining Your "How" Over Time

  • How will I remind myself to stay on track during the journey?
  • What obstacles might show up, and how will I handle them?
  • What's my plan when motivation fades? (Because it will.)
  • How will I celebrate small wins along the way?
  • What will I do if this goal takes longer than expected—give up, or recommit?
Pro Tip: Create a "Why Letter" to your future self explaining why this goal matters.
Try This Powerful Exercise:

The 3-Column Goal Audit

Column 1: All my current goals
Column 2: Why this goal matters (be brutally honest)
Column 3: Keep or Release?

Be willing to let go of goals that no longer serve you. Clarity isn't just about what you pursue—it's also about what you release.

Most powerful goals aren’t about becoming someone new. They are about becoming more fully yourself.
